Nehemiah 2

Text: Nehemiah 2: 1-8 
Message 2: The Book of Nehemiah – Chapter 2 

Revision:
1. Nehemiah was a Jew in captivity and served as the king’s cupbearer.
2. Nehemiah was a man of concern to find out the poor condition of his brethren in Jerusalem.
3. Nehemiah was a man of prayer to commit the condition to God. 

1. Nehemiah’s petition to the king (2:1-8) 
(a) How long did Nehemiah pray and wait upon God? Compare month Chisleu (1:1) to month Nissan (2:1).
(b) God’s providential time finally came (v.2-3). Was Nehemiah afraid?
(c) How long did Nehemiah pray in v.4? Learn to pray without ceasing!
(d) Nehemiah made 3 requests to the king (v.5-8). Give glory to God for answered prayer! (v.8b).

2. Nehemiah’s arrival at Jerusalem (2:9-16) 
(a) The enemies were ready to stop him (v.10).
(b) Inspection by Nehemiah revealed a broken and burnt city (v.12-16).
(c) Nehemiah was a man of action – never give up.

3. Nehemiah rallied the People (2:17-20)
(a) Nehemiah can’t rebuild the walls by himself. It is teamwork.
(b) Nehemiah challenged the people to recognize the problem and see God’s Hand to help them. 
(c) People’s response was wonder: Let us rise up and build (v.18b).
(d) The enemies never stopped attacking them (v.19). What did Nehemiah do? (v.20).

Nehemiah: Man of Concern; Man of Prayer; Man who waited upon God; Man of Action
Memory Verse: Nehemiah 2:20a ‘’Then I answered I them, and said unto them, The God of heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and build.’’
