Text: Proverbs 6: 16-19 “The 7 Deadly Sins”

Message 7: He that Soweth Discord Among Brethren

“These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, an heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.” Proverbs 6: 16-19

1. Strife in Israel’s leadership and the New Testament Churches

(a) Strife for leadership in Israel – Miriam and Aaron against Moses (Num 12:1-3)

(b) Strife for leadership among the 12 disciples (Mark 10:35-45)

(c) Division in CorinthianChurch (1 Cor 1:12) due to their carnal action of envying, strife and division (1 Cor 3:3)

(d) Strife between 2 sisters (Phil 4:2) 

2. Actions that can sow discord among brethren

(a) Deadly sins 1 to 6 will result in sowing discord

(b) “I am not of the body” (1 Cor 12:15,16) & “I have no need of you” (1 Cor 12:21) 

3.  Seven Reasons for Unity (Eph 4:4-6)

      Seven “One Another’s” that will not bring discord (Rom 12:10a,10b;

      Gal 6:2; Eph 4:32; Heb 3:13; James 5:16a,16b) 

4. Satan – the accuser of brethren (Rev 12:10)

(a) Accuse us before God day and night

(b) We can be sure Satan will whisper evils of our brethren to our ears to sow discord in the Church

To do: With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Eph 4:2-3
