10th message from the Study on Numbers.
1. Second Numbering (26:1-65)
(a)God commanded the second numbering (v.1-2). The total no of men, 20 years and older, was 601,730 (v.51). What was the no in the first census? (1:46). How many were counted in both census?
(b)Beware of relying on number! Refer to 2 Samuel 24:10.
(c)The Land of Promise will be divided by lot (v.52-56). God decides our lot in life!
(d)The tribe of Levi will not receive any land (v.62). Do you want serve God full-time?
(e)God meant what He said (v..63-65). All died in wilderness except Joshua and Caleb.
2. Inheritance by Daughters (27:1-17) – God is fair to both sons and daughters
3. Joshua succeeds Moses (27:18-23)
(a)Moses will see but not enter the Promised Land (v.12-14). The Land is a Gift.
(b)Moses requested for a replacement (v.15-17). It must be God’s choice.
(c)Joshua succeeds Moses (v.18-23). The LORD named him. What does Joshua possess? What is the significance to lay hand? (v.18).
4. Special Offerings & Law on making a vow (28-30)
5. Midianites Defeated (31:1-54)
(a) Is it right for Israel to avenge against the Midianites? (v.1-2).
(b) Apparently success of Israel in battle against the Midianites (v.7-12).
(c) Moses’ righteous anger against Israel (v.13-24). Beware of “small things” that will destroy our spiritual lives.
6. Two and a Half Tribes Inherit Trans-Jordan (32:1-42)
(a) The tribes inherited Trans-Jordan area were Reuben, Gad and ½ tribe of Mannaseh (v.33).
(b) Moses’ initial concern (v.6-7) and the unity displayed by the 2½ tribes (v.16-19) – we must do God’s work together.
7. Recount of the 40 years’ wandering (33:1-49) and division of Land of Canaan (Promised Land) (33:50-34:29) – Israel must destroy all the Canaanites and their objects and places of worship
