I feel burdened to type out notes for messages without printed notes which is something we did in the past. May this be useful to people who may not be able to listen to the recordings and may this be pleasing in the Lord sight.
Walk in truth 06/04/2013 Preached by Pr Lek
Sermon text: Ps 86
"Teach me thy way O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name" (Ps 86:11)
(1) Background
There are enemies within and without to cause us to fall. Psalm 86 states of the external ones (who wanted to take David life (v14)). Our purpose of life is to live a Godly life through us. We need to take note of the following in order to lead a Godly life
(2) One way with God
We have a fleshly inclination and there is a constant tussle within us (Gal 5: 19 - 21a - focus is on our carnality). The flesh has no victory and profit. David realised it and his heart is poor and needy (v 1). His heart is bowed down to God and this is crucial for us to walk with God. We must realize the need of God to turn our rebellious heart as only He holds the power to do so. Ask God to show us the way of truth so that we can receive God protection, care and help in our lives. Seek God always in crossroads and be humble. We must know we need God and we are sons of God (v 2). Truth of God is not merely head knowledge but more importantly is the heart condition of Christians. Our heart must be convicted with the truth and wisdom comes from honouring God. Set a day aside for God (Sabbath day). Do not utter "teach me thy way O LORD" in an insincere manner and long term understanding of God words is needed.
(3) One heart with God
God will bless us if we seek God way. We must yield to the truth of God with the reverential fear of God. Fear of God means that we acknowledge God as a judge and a consuming fire. Such conviction is necessary. We must submit to the leading of the Spirit. Receive things (on the Internet or elsewhere) that are wholesome. We cannot walk our own way for chastisement will come. Thus, we should unite our hearts to fear God. [#]
May this be helpful and edifying to you.
In Christ,
Jun Kai
