Text: Proverbs 6: 16-19 “The 7 Deadly Sins”
Message 2: A Lying Tongue
“These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, an heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.” Proverbs 6: 16-19
1. Satan – the father of lies
(a) Satan is a liar and the father of it (John 8:44)
(b) Satan lied to Adam and Eve (Gen 3:4)
(c) All men are born in sin and are liars (Jer 9:5)
(d) Liars condemned in the Lake of Fire (Rev 21:8)
2. Beware of telling lies:
(a) To cover up our sins for fear of punishment. Remember 1 John 1:9.
(b) To project a better image of ourselves

(c) For convenience sake with no hurt to anyone (white lie)
(d) To flatter others. Speak the truth in love (Eph 4:15a)
3. Examples of Lying recorded in the Bible
(a) Abraham lied to protect himself – fear of man (Gen 12:10-13)
(b) Abraham lied again (Gen 20)
(c) Isaac, Abraham’s son, also lied in similar manner (Gen 26:6-11)
