8 am service (Traditional)
10 am service (Contemporary)
I wondered to myself, what is a contemporary service? Why there are two services? Feeling puzzled, i entered into the 10 am service.
When i sat on the pews, the ushers served me with warmth, however, this is where the similarities between a BP church service and a charismatic service ended.
After which, there is a song session. Drums are used and all kinds of Pop instruments are employed. The songs sang are repetitive, one song can be used over 10 times and the tune is completely changed. Old hymns such as "O Little Town of Bethlehem" were in a totally different tune and sounded like a lullaby. The lead singer was a young lady whom yelled and the congregation clapped and danced.
The scripture reading followed (NIV text) and the sermon is also full of loopholes
The pastor is a lady (clearly violated that ministers must be male) and the sermon is also not totally what the bible conveyed. The minister claimed that Jesus is a mundane name thus, God want to call God the son Jesus, and many other fallacies.
This shows the importance to worship in a bible believing church and we should all be glad to be in ebenezer.
In another separate situation, as i am a bus enthusiast and some fellow bus enthusiast whom i met over the net are also Christians, they invited me to their cell. Again, it turn out to be a charismatic cell and thus, after attending 10 sessions, i left. Below is a list of their wrong doctrines
- They speak in tongues in the background where one pray, this not only distract the prayer, it is also a wrong doctrine.
- When newcomers come, they do not welcome them warmly and left them alone.
- The cell is dominated by bus discussion (more than 70%). A argument about buses could take place in between sharing and the sermon.
- Members of cell speak vulgarities openly, even in sermons
- The sermon is delivered by a charismatic and he is also not very well verse for doctrine.
- The cell is not fully well organized, worship is haphazard (The order is not clear)
- The hymns and music used are also drums and others
